This is a strong blend of movement modalities. I like to say it’s a combination of first and second series Ashtanga with a little bit of third series sprinkled in.

Class is live streamed through Zoom, which allows us to connect and interact! You can also watch a live stream of class on my YouTube Channel — easily broadcast to any of your connected devices and TV.

What is Ashtanga?

Ashtanga is the original style that inspired power yoga and modern day vinyasa flow.

Most people start by learning Sun Salutations, foundational standing poses, and then gradually progress through the first series, also known as Primary Series. This practice develops core, hips, and upper-body strength for arm balances. It is traditionally regarded as a pre-requisite for second series, which includes backbends, inversions and arm balances of varying levels of difficulty.

Truth is, both sequences contain many strong, therapeutic postures that are accessible to most people right away with the occasional modification. Rather than follow the traditional method, let’s get creative and explore.

What is Vinyasa?

Vinyasa can mean “to do in a special way,” or “breath linking movement.” In a postural context, this implies that the teacher is drawing more from their experience, creativity and intuition to link movements together on the breath in a fresh way.

Note: Monday morning’s hip class explores more of the primary (1st) series — try to do both classes for maximum benefit, along with Wednesday morning for backbends, and Friday am for all round strength and alignment.
